Group Accommodation in Auckland CBD: Housing a Work Team
Group accommodation in the Auckland CBD works best when the whole team is in one or two buildings within walking distance of where you are working. For most corporate groups that means several serviced apartments near the Viaduct rather than a block of hotel rooms, with more space per person, kitchens for early starts and a living room where the team can actually sit together.
Why apartments suit a team
A hotel block gives everyone the same room on a long corridor. With apartments you can fit the space to the people. Two colleagues who get on can share a two bedroom apartment and still have a room each, and a senior person can have one to themselves. A team of eight might need four apartments instead of eight hotel rooms. That is fewer keys, fewer bills and fewer people queuing for the lift at 7.45am.
The living room earns its keep. Stay Viaduct apartments have a dining table that seats at least four, and there is an option of a 65 inch TV you can plug a laptop into, so the morning stand-up or the evening debrief can happen in someone's apartment instead of a hotel bar.

Mix the apartment sizes
Start with your headcount and who is willing to share, then work out how many one, two and three bedroom apartments you need. Ask which sizes are free in each building for your dates, and try to keep everyone under one roof. The morning walk to the office is simpler, and people can find each other. The listings page shows what each apartment looks like.
One booking, one invoice
What finance teams care about most is the bill. Book the group as one corporate booking and ask for a single invoice to the company, rather than each person paying and claiming it back. Stay Viaduct offers flexible invoicing and discounted corporate group rates, with the details on the corporate accommodation page.
Send a rooming list early
Once the dates are fixed, send through who is staying where, and when. Teams rarely all arrive on the same flight. Check-in is from 3pm and check-out is by 10am, with early check-in and late check-out available on request, so flag anyone landing first thing in the morning. The person making the booking needs to be at least 20.
Parking
Parking is available at many apartments, so ask when you book if some of the team are driving. It may cost extra, and the car parks have a 2.1 metre height limit, which rules out most vans.
Meeting space
For four to six people, the apartment dining table is often enough for a working session. Anything bigger, such as a workshop, a client presentation or a full planning day, needs a proper room, so ask about larger meeting space when you book. Raise it when you book, not the week before.
If the team is in town for a conference, the NZICC on Hobson Street is an easy walk up from the Viaduct, and nearer again from The Heritage further up the same street. The ANZ Viaduct Events Centre is a few minutes' walk from anywhere around the harbour.
Getting the team around
From the airport, four or more people usually travel more easily in a pre-booked shuttle or minivan than in a line of taxis. Allow 30 to 45 minutes outside peak hour, and longer in the morning and evening rush.
In the city, most of the team will not need a car. Commercial Bay, Britomart and most of the downtown office towers are 5 to 15 minutes on foot. Buses, trains and ferries take contactless bank cards and phones as well as AT HOP cards, so nobody needs a transport card for a short visit. The City Rail Link opened in September 2026, with new underground stations including Te Waihorotiu near Aotea Square, so the uptown end of the city is now quick to reach by train.
Team dinners and a free afternoon
The Viaduct, Wynyard Quarter and Britomart all have restaurants that can seat ten or more. For a big table on a Thursday or Friday night, book well ahead and ask about set menus.
If the trip has a team activity built in, Do Auckland has a page of group activities, from escape rooms to bowling. Being on the harbour, an obvious one is an America's Cup sailing trip, where everyone takes a turn on the grinders. And for the evenings once the work is done, Do Auckland's nightlife page covers bars and live shows.
A short checklist
Before you confirm a group booking, have these sorted:
- the headcount, and who is happy to share
- arrival and departure times for each person
- who receives the invoice, and what reference it needs
- whether you need parking or a meeting room
- one contact person for the booking, so changes go through one place
